Mounds, OK – A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this Thursday for Mounds Elementary School, which was destroyed by an electrical fire in October 2007. The new school will replace the burned building that serves approximately 350 elementary students. With 33,000 square feet, the new facility will include twelve classrooms, three specialized classrooms, administrative area, media center, gymnasium, computer lab and a storm shelter.
"The new school will have a drop off lane and covered waiting area," said Crafton Tull Sparks architect Britt Embry, AIA. "We want it to be a safe environment. The fire was a tragedy and we are happy to be a part of the rebuilding."
Exterior finishes will be brick and synthetic stucco with a metal roof. Crafton Tull Sparks is providing architecture, engineering, and interior design services.
