Pulaski County Pedestrian & Bicycle Trails Master Plan-Pulaski County, AR
This master plan proposes a regional network of connections between the numerous cities within the county for transportation and recreational use. Local municipal plans were incorporated into the plan, which was also a coordinated effort with Metroplan, the local MPO, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, and Arkansas State Parks. The plan identifies strategies for on- and off-road trails, focusing pedestrian-oriented trails with walkable distances to destinations in urban areas, while utilizing bicycle trails to connect one urban area to another. In addition, trail classifications with corresponding design criteria were developed, as well as signage and trailhead standards. Initial phases were identified based on several factors, and cost estimates and action items were developed along with implementation strategies, policy recommendations and funding alternatives. The project won a 2007 American Society of Landscape Architects Arkansas Chapter Merit Award.
