Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater, OK

For decades, Oklahoma State University’s Lewis Field sat neglected. In 2002, the university embarked on a mission to show a commitment to the football program and the stadium. A gift from alumnus T. Boone Pickens, for whom the stadium was renamed, provided funding for design and construction to begin. Phase I created access to 13,888 square feet of private lounge space with the addition of 2,030 club seats, and 450 seats in 19 new, luxury suites that open to the football field. The suites feature heated seating, premium food service, audio-visual systems and upscale finishes. Other features include a new, two-story press box, improved field lighting for better playing and viewing experience, and an exterior brick façade to unify the stadium to other campus facilities. The addition of escalators, elevators, wider concourses, and new restrooms and concessions on two levels enhance the fan experience.

With the successful completion of Phase I, Oklahoma State University retained Crafton Tull Sparks to improve Boone Pickens Stadium through the design and construction of Phase II of the master plan. Phase II called for similar fan amenities and created an imposing face to the heavy-traffic side of the stadium. A new mezzanine level provides concessions, restrooms and improved foot traffic while luxury suites bringing the stadium’s suite total to 51 from 19. Other improvements include plaza paving, repairing the existing steel structure, and new ramps, elevators and stairs to serve upper levels. The addition of escalators and wider concourses improved movement of fans and new restrooms and concessions areas on two levels allow for better fan circulation during events.

The field level of the West End Zone (phase III) at Boone Pickens Stadium is all about performance on the field. All aspects of the design are geared towards the game. The locker room, equipment room, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning areas provide state-of-the-art facilities for every need of the football program. The West End Zone will also house the coaches’ locker room, a team theater, offensive and defensive team meeting rooms, training table commissary, a loading dock and back-of-house support spaces. Encompassing 144,675 square feet, this area of the stadium allows plenty of space for team members and staff to focus, prepare, rest and reflect, and receive treatment and rehabilitation.
