K-39 over South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad - Chanute, KS
The Kansas Department of Transportation hired Crafton Tull to prepare the Discovery Report and construction plans for the K-39 over South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad overpass in Chanute, Kansas. Clearance was tight, and the overpass needed to be 23’ - 0” above the railroad; however, the slope of the adjacent sidewalk grade could not exceed five percent. All of this had to take place between two intersections 1,200’ apart. The project features a 48’ x 23’ x 250’ precast concrete arch, a 14’ x 10’ x 74’ pedestrian underpass, and more than 12,000 square feet of decorative MSE walls.
