Hendrix College first hired Crafton Tull to provide landscape architecture services on a project to detail two fountains featured in the center of the campus. The project included construction documents for fountain layout, plumbing, paving layout, area lighting, landscape design, and irrigation. Our team also provided construction administration to direct, inspect, and approve the fountains’ final installation. The upper fountain is a reconstructed reflecting pool that received new surfacing, vertical spray jets, and a rock cap that doubles as a seat wall. On the lower curved fountain, boulders serve to cascade water through the turtle rock to the lower trough. This feature transitions the grades from the upper plaza to the less formal lower courtyard. More than a decade later, Crafton Tull continues to provide landscape and irrigation plans for Hendrix campus facilities.
Crafton Tull’s use of energy efficiency techniques coupled with the sustainable landscape design of the Student Life and Technology Center helped Hendrix College receive its first LEED Gold status.
